WIS Basketball Teams Make WAVES in the 2023 Season

Since March, our WIS basketball teams (U10 mixed, U14 boys and girls; U16 Boys and girls, and U19 boys) have been competing in the Namibian Basketball School League. It has been a wonderful season and we are very proud of our WIS basketball athletes. Our student-athletes, with support from their families, have put in a lot of hard work, time and dedication to their sport and their team. Our athletes & coaches have practiced 3 days a week all season and have sacrificed many weekends to fulfill their commitment to their team and our school.

The WIS Sports Department and our WIS basketball coaching staff would like to thank all of the athletes for their steadfast dedication to their sport. We would also like to thank the parents for their unwavering support with transportation of athletes, cheering on the sidelines and flexibility with training and game schedules. We also could not have gone through the season without your generous contributions of water, Powerade, orange slices and most importantly, moral support.

We are very proud to share that of the four teams we had registered in the league, we had three teams advance to the playoffs. This year we are proud of our youngest group. We registered in the league U10 mixed team. They took home silver in the finals. Congratulations to the U14 girl's team for retaining the title for the second year in a row. The U16 girls team also took home silver in the finals!

The teams played their hearts out and left everything on the court. As the coaching team, we are so proud of every player for what they did and how they have grown and developed in the sport of basketball. We can confidently say that WIS would not have achieved what we did if it were not for all the hard work the athletes put into practice every single day! Thank you WIS basketball athletes!

Our proudest moment as coaches was when Jessica Damon was called up as the most valuable player (MVP) in the U14 girls category for the whole league and if that wasn’t enough Ondeya Neri was announced as defensive player of the league in both U14 and U16.

We can't wait for another successful basketball season next year in 2024!

Yours,

Audrey Bock, Michael and Tawanda.
