Meet Ms. Qaanita Coelho - our new EY 3/4 Homeroom Teacher

Welcome to WIS! What would you like us to know about you?

I have an outgoing personality, you’ll never see me without a smile on my face. Throughout my career, I have consistently demonstrated my ability to pursue and achieve personal and professional goals in life. I believe that my true strength lies in my motivation and results-driven approach. I started my teaching career at WIS as a teaching assistant in 2016. I am a proud Namibian and born in the heart of Windhoek.

Could you tell us a little about your philosophy of education?

My teaching philosophy focuses on a student-centred approach. I believe that education should be a collaborative process between the teacher, student, and parents with the teacher serving as a facilitator and guide.

People often like to know their teacher’s academic background and professional experiences. What and where have you studied? What and where have you worked?

I finished my Diploma in Junior Primary Education NQA Level 7 (Grades 0-3) in 2021 and continued with an Advanced Certificate in Senior Primary Education, Subject Specialisation: Mathematics and English NQA Level 7. I have various experiences in other fields, including entrepreneurship and crafts.

What do you do when you aren't teaching?

I am a mother of two and I love spending time with my family and friends. A weekend with a braai or a potjie and a game of dominoes with my loved ones and friends is my ideal weekend.

Why did you choose WIS?

I relate to WIS’s educational principles, culture and values. I have grown as an individual in many ways possible since joining WIS. I have built strong relationships with the staff and students and can contribute my own personal and unique contribution to the learning community.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know about you?

I started out in Early Years 2 as an educational assistant in 2016 and am very thrilled and proud to be appointed in Early Years again, but this time as a homeroom teacher! This is my personal success story and I encourage those who are following the same path, that WIS affords the opportunity to those to pursue career opportunities.
