Meet Diana Apria - our new MYP Theatre Teacher

Welcome to WIS! What would you like us to know about you?

I was born and raised in Bogor, Indonesia. Two years ago, I moved to Africa and fell in love with the continent's diverse cultures, landscapes, and vibrant communities. I've been teaching for seven years, which has broadened my horizons and deepened my appreciation for human connections across borders through learning from students with different backgrounds.

Could you tell us a little about your philosophy of education?

Teaching, for me, is an ongoing journey of learning and improvement. I believe in enhancing the learning experience by actively incorporating diverse data and resources into lesson planning. I encourage students to make predictions before each lesson, fostering engagement and connecting new information to their prior understanding. Seeking feedback from peers and students, and incorporating it into my teaching approach, is a crucial aspect of my commitment to continuous personal growth.

As a performing arts teacher, I prioritize creating a positive learning environment and building strong relationships with students through exercises and warm-ups. By consistently challenging myself to evolve and refine teaching strategies, I aim to provide my students with a fulfilling and dynamic learning experience.

People often like to know their teacher’s academic background and professional experiences. What and where have you studied? What and where have you worked?

I studied performing arts (dance and drama) at the State University of Jakarta, Indonesia, gaining a Bachelor of Education. Also, I completed my Master's in Cultural Studies from Udayana University, Bali, in Indonesia.

I have taught at multiple schools such as Stella Mundi School Bali in Indonesia, Global Jaya School in Indonesia, and Luanda International School in Angola.

What do you do when you aren’t teaching?

I enjoy Salsa, Bachata, and Kizomba dancing, in my free time at home, I love to play guitar and do arts and crafts.

Why did you choose WIS?

I chose WIS because I have a genuine love for Namibia, and the school's commitment to embracing cultural diversity resonates deeply with my values. I believe that a learning environment enriched with diverse perspectives fosters a more inclusive and dynamic educational experience. I am eager to contribute to and thrive within such a vibrant community.
