Embracing Transitions: Celebrating Grade 5 Students' Journey and Future at WIS

Dear WIS Community,

It's that time of year when we bid farewell to one grade and eagerly anticipate the beginning of a new chapter. The Grade 5 students have embarked on their journey towards Grade 6, and this morning, we launched the Grade 5 to Grade 6 transition programme, designed to help ease their transition to the next grade by introducing them to the new environment, routines, and expectations of Grade 6. Next week Grade 5s will have the opportunity to shadow Grade 6 students for a day. This experience will offer them a glimpse into the daily life of a Grade 6 student, allowing them to familiarise themselves with their future classrooms, teachers, and peers. It's a chance for them to ask questions, make connections, and build anticipation for the adventures that lie ahead. And then tonight our Middle School coordinators have organised a special event for our Grade 5 students to welcome them into Middle School—the Winter Wonderland Dance! I am sure this will be enjoyed by everyone.

This time of year holds great significance for our Grade 5 students, as it marks both an end and a new beginning. The culmination of their Primary School journey through The Exhibition has been an exceptional rite of passage, showcasing their knowledge, skills, and personal growth. Next Friday we also celebrate this special time with our beloved Candle Ceremony, held during the last assembly of the year. This heartfelt WIS tradition symbolises the passing of the torch from the current Grade 5s to the next year's Grade 5s, who will assume the role of senior students in the Primary School. The Candle Ceremony is a cherished moment that exemplifies the unique spirit of our school. Please view the video below of last year's Candle Ceremony.

On another note, as we approach the end of the academic year, we are busy putting together class lists for the upcoming year. This process is undertaken with careful consideration, taking into account various factors such as academic needs, friendship groups, social dynamics, and valuable input from parents, among others. We strive to create well-balanced and supportive learning environments for all our students. The class lists will be shared during the last week of school, together with the stationery lists, providing a window for any necessary adjustments.

As we celebrate our Grade 5 students' achievements and prepare for their transition to Grade 6, let us cherish this time of reflection, growth, and new beginnings. May the future hold boundless opportunities for our students, and may the spirit of unity and support continue to thrive within the WIS school community.

Warmest regards,

Marcelle van Leenen

Primary School Principal
