It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Windhoek International School.

For more than a quarter of a century WIS has provided a world-class international education to both local families and expatriates.

By design, the school offers an educational alternative to the many excellent local options. Our curriculum at all age levels follows programmes from the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).  The school is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS), AND for many years it has been an active member of the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA).

The school year runs from August to June.  In other words, WIS is uniquely positioned to meet the needs and aspirations of families who are internationally-minded and whose children expect to study abroad.  Indeed, most of our graduating students leave WIS to enter good universities in Europe, North America, South Africa and elsewhere.

Our extensive facilities are purpose-designed and we moved to our present location in 1994.  The school is located in a quiet residential district to the west of the city.  It is a safe and inspiring environment in which children can learn.

The teaching staff is diverse and reflects the international ethos of the school.  Currently, we employ teachers from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Kenya, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Russia, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, the UK, the USA, and Zimbabwe.

On a personal note, this is my sixth year as Director of WIS and I consider myself privileged to have been given the opportunity to lead a school with a proud history and an exciting future.

My own career started in the UK nearly forty years ago and has taken me to fine international (and IB) schools in Switzerland, Germany, Tanzania, Japan, and India.  I have enjoyed each and every experience but it is a real joy to be back in Africa.

The school is an inclusive and welcoming one. I hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you in the near future.
