Report on "What a Wonderful World Music Production"
Whew! It's finally done. Organizing the What a Wonderful World Production was no small task, yet we came to realize that we have a great pool of talent lying dormant and waiting to be tapped. The enthusiasm shown by the learners towards the production was reason to proceed.
It certainly was a special event. Not only for me, but for the learners and the parents who showed their support by turning out in large numbers. (I mean the auditorium was packed!)
Seeing the learners perform on Thursday night to the best of their ability was so inspiring and encouraging. The learners worked well with the teachers involved and gave out an amazing performance.
Thank you to the learners who took time at break-times to come to the music room and rehearse- indeed practice makes perfect.
I am really grateful to every single member of staff who gave of their time to assist with the production. It was great working with you all.
In conclusion, I feel at ease because I guess this is just the beginning. The sky is definitely too close to be the limit!

WIS Science Fair
The Windhoek International School (WIS) held its award ceremony for their Science Fair on Thursday 8th May in the school Sports Hall. The standard of the entries for the event this year was particularly impressive and the judging panel consisting of teachers from the school, Loami Prinsloo (St. Georges), Bruce Buchanan (Combretum), Helvi Iileka (Solar Age), Andreas Wienecke (Habitat Research and Development Centre), Dr. Ronnie Bock (UNAM), Tharina Bird (National Museum of Namibia) and Michael Linke (Bicycle Empowerment Network), had a very difficult task in choosing the eventual prize winners.
Prizes were awarded for Year group winners by the judges, teachers prizes were also awarded for effort and there were prizes awarded by the whole school community after they had come to view the exhibits. Winners of the best project in Year 7 were Sharifa Seibes and Kastriot Osmani for their project on ‘Acid rain’. The gold medal winners in Year 8 were Ross Conroy and Daniel Watson for their project on ‘Plant density and plant growth’ and the Year 9 trophy went to Danielle Zimny for her project on ‘Memory’. Mutaleni Ya Toivo won the prize for the best project with a Namibian theme for the second year running. This year’s project focused on Malnutrition in Namibia.
Sharifa Seibes and Kastriot Osmani had the third best project overall. Dominic Motoomull with his project on ‘Hygiene’ was second and the overall winner of the event was Danielle Zimny.
The school would like to thank the main sponsor of the Science Fair, Coca Cola who supplied all the tables and the medals and the parents, judges and the WIS community for supporting this annual event. The prize winners are now looking forward to representing the school at the regional event that will be taking place shortly.
