MIDDLE SCHOOL CURRICULUM
Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 remain with their homeroom peers and follow a common curriculum bridging the Primary Years Programme and the commencement of IGCSE classes in Year 10. Students' intellectual, social, physical and emotional development is stimulated by a range of classes covering English Language and Literature (6 lessons per week), Foreign Language (5), Social Studies (5), Science (5) and Mathematics (6). In addition, there are two lessons each of Art, Drama, Music, Physical Education, Information Technology, Pastoral Care, and one lesson of Health Education.
Updated copies of the Middle School Curriculum outlines are kept in the office of the Head of Secondary and are available for parents to view on request.
There are explicit aims and objectives for each subject appropriate to the age level, and each course is articulated in terms of concepts and skills to be acquired, curriculum content, and assessment expectations. Teachers are encouraged to modify the given curricula and their own pedagogical styles in response to the needs, interests and aptitudes of the students. Regular assessments generate data for two reports per semester and there is an end of year written examination in each academic subject.
